Who Is Jesus?

If you’re new to the Christian faith or have questions about who Jesus Christ is, you’re not alone. Many people wonder about the significance of Jesus and why Christians call Him the “Saviour.” Understanding who Jesus is is central to Christianity and shapes the lives of billions of believers around the world. So, who is Jesus Christ, and why does He matter?

Jesus Christ: The Son of God
Christians believe that Jesus is not just a historical figure but the Son of God, meaning He is divine—God in human form. The Bible teaches that Jesus existed with God the Father and the Holy Spirit before the world began. He was sent to earth by God to accomplish a specific mission: to save humanity from sin and restore our relationship with God. This makes Jesus unique—fully God and fully human at the same time.

In John 1:14, the Bible says, “The Word became flesh and made His dwelling among us.”

Jesus: The Saviour of the World
At the heart of the Christian message is that Jesus came to save us from our sins. The Bible says that all people are separated from God because of sin (Romans 3:23). Sin is anything that goes against God’s perfect will and character. This separation from God results in both spiritual and physical death. However, God, out of His deep love for humanity, sent His Son Jesus to offer a way back to Him.

Jesus lived a perfect, sinless life, and though He was innocent, He willingly died on a cross to take the punishment for our sins. In John 3:16, a famous verse, it says, “For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.”

By dying on the cross, Jesus made it possible for us to be forgiven and to have a relationship with God. But that’s not the end of the story.

The Resurrection: Victory Over Death
Three days after His death, Jesus rose from the dead. This is called the Resurrection, and it is one of the most important events in Christian history. The Resurrection shows that Jesus has power over sin and death. It confirms that He truly is the Son of God and that His promises of eternal life are real. Because Jesus is alive, Christians believe that death is not the end for those who trust in Him.

As 1 Corinthians 15:20 says, “But Christ has indeed been raised from the dead, the first fruits of those who have fallen asleep.” Jesus’ resurrection gives hope to Christians that they too will experience eternal life with God after death.

Jesus: The Way, The Truth, and The Life
Jesus didn’t just come to die for our sins; He came to show us how to live. Throughout His life, Jesus taught people about love, forgiveness, humility, and obedience to God. He performed miracles, healed the sick, and cared for those who were marginalized and forgotten.

In John 14:6, Jesus said, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.” This statement emphasizes that knowing Jesus is the only way to have a relationship with God. By believing in Him, we are invited into a life of purpose, peace, and eternal hope.

What Does It Mean to Follow Jesus?
Following Jesus means putting your trust in Him as your Lord and Saviour. It’s a decision to turn away from sin and to follow His teachings, allowing Him to guide your life. It’s not always easy, but it’s a life filled with meaning, love, and the promise of eternity with God.

When you believe in Jesus, you are given the gift of the Holy Spirit—God’s presence living within you, helping you grow in faith, resist temptation, and live a life that honors God.

In Matthew 28:19-20, Jesus commands His followers to “go and make disciples of all nations.” This means that as Christians, we’re called to share the good news of Jesus with others, showing them the same love and forgiveness that Jesus showed us.

Why Does Jesus Matter?
Jesus matters because He changes everything. He offers us a new beginning, freedom from guilt and shame, and a future filled with hope. By accepting Him, you receive forgiveness, peace with God, and the assurance of eternal life. Without Jesus, we are destined for eternal death and separation from a loving, holy, and just God.

In summary:

• Jesus is the Son of God, fully divine and fully human.
• He came to save us from our sins by dying on the cross and rising from the dead.
• He teaches us the way to live a life that honours God and gives us hope for eternity.

No matter where you are in life, Jesus invites you to know Him personally. He loves you, and His arms are open wide. By putting your faith in Him, you can experience the abundant and eternal life He promises.
